About Desmond

Desmond Henderson playing piano.

Desmond Henderson is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree with concentrations in piano and voice, studying under Dr. Rosângela Sebba and Dr. Jeanette Fontaine.

He was a member of the Mississippi State University Singers and served as the collaborative pianist and student conductor for several ensembles at MSU, including the Schola Cantorum treble choir and O.P.U.S. tenor/bass choir (Read more about his experience at MSU here).

In the summer of 2022, he was a finalist in the PRCCP International Collaborative Piano Competition in San Germán, Puerto Rico, where he was awarded 2nd place.

He has a deep passion for performing and researching works by underrepresented composers.

He has presented his research on Florence Price, the first African-American woman composer to achieve national acclaim, at numerous regional and national conferences.

With his love for music, community, and worship, Desmond has served in various music ministerial roles in the Golden Triangle Area and Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Desmond is currently pursuing graduate studies in Collaborative Piano at the University of Arkansas, studying with Dr. Tomoko Kashiwagi.
